Authorities in the national capital are set to intensify action against alleged irregularities, particularly unauthorised activities and encroachments that disrupt public life and pose safety risks. These violations often obstruct traffic, create nuisance, and, in some cases, contribute to accidents.

The renewed focus comes in the wake of a recent road accident in the Shalimar Bagh area, where a minor lost their life. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while expressing grief, attributed the tragedy to illegal encroachments that hindered smooth traffic movement.

She stated that the absence of such encroachments along roadsides could have ensured better traffic flow, potentially reducing the likelihood of fatal accidents.

The Chief Minister also alleged that many of these encroachments exist on government land and were established during the tenure of the previous administration, continuing to inconvenience residents and commuters.

Across the city, several areas reportedly face similar issues, with encroachments and irregularities hampering traffic flow, causing obstructions, and posing safety hazards, according to local residents.

The Chief Minister further noted that the government had approached the Delhi High Court on the matter, which subsequently issued directives for the removal of illegal constructions.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that the municipal authorities are preparing to conduct surveys of residential properties allegedly being misused for non-residential purposes.

Senior zonal officers have been directed to identify areas designated exclusively for residential use but currently being used for commercial or other activities.
