Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday, June 5, chaired a high-level meeting at Delhi Secretariat with top officers from the MCD, Delhi Police, Fire, DDA and other departments.

After the meeting, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood said that the government will recover losses from officials found guilty of corruption and will invoke DDMA. This comes days after a major fire killed 21 people at a hotel in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area with little regard to building norms.

At the meeting, the government took the decision to invoke the Delhi Disaster Management Act 2005.

“Delhi government to invoke DDMA Act to enforce two-year-jail on violations of orders, action against officers for complicity. Under this act, there are provisions to recover losses from officers’ salary, pension, even their properties,” PTI quoted Sood as saying.

Further, Sood informed that the government has decided to empower the District Magistrates to cut down multiplicity of authorities in the national capital.

In this regard, directions have already been given to DMs to identify violations in buildings. To stop unauthorised construction in the city, any building above ground-plus four floors will be sealed immediately,” Sood said.

Moreover, Rekha Gupta has asked DMs to submit daily reports on removal of illegal construction in the city.
