Delhi put on alert as police release photos of 2 terrorists suspected to be in city

Delhi Police withdraw terror alert advisory

Intelligence agencies informed the Delhi Police late on Tuesday that two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists had infiltrated into the national capital, following which a high alert was sounded in the city.

The police have released pictures of the two men and said guest houses, hotels and paying guest accommodations were being scanned to trace the two.

The police have asked the public to be alert. Residents have also been asked to report to the Paharganj police station on 011-23520787 or 011-2352474 in case they have any information regarding these two terrorists.

The photograph released by the police shows two bearded men in kurtas and traditional headgear posing next to a milestone, which reads ‘Delhi 360 km, Ferozepur 9 km’.

The advisory of the Delhi Police regarding the two suspected terrorists was issued hours after a 28-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist wanted in the murder of a CID Intelligence Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday.

“The team of Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Ansar-Ul-Haqe with the help of local intelligence. We received a tip-off that Haqe will come to Delhi airport from Bengaluru and will go to Srinagar,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Singh Kushwah.

“A trap was laid on Tuesday and the team arrested him from Terminal-3 of IGI-Airport”, said Kushwah.

“During investigation, it came to notice that Haqe was swiftly changing his hideouts and shifted to Mumbai and thereafter to Bengaluru,” he added.

“Haqe along with his accomplices had killed Jammu and Kashmir police Sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir on October 30 when he was abducted from his car. He was travelling in his car on his way home in Pulwama”, he added.

Last week, the Punjab Police had placed the state on alert after its counter-intelligence wing indicated that six to seven Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists “could be moving towards Delhi” from the state.

The alert was sounded in the wake on an incident in which four people had taken over a taxi at gunpoint in Pathankot around 11:30 pm on November 13, sparking fears of another 2016-like terrorist attack in Pathankot.
