Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted an ISI-backed major terror and trans-national arms racket and arrested its key operative following a special operation.
The arrested accused has been identified as Pravin Kumar alias Tiddu, who is said to be the close associate of dreaded gangster Rohit Choudhary.
He was reportedly absconding for a long time and the police had announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head.
According to the crime branch, a special operation was launched to arrest Tiddu. The police have also recovered high-end weapons and five live cartridges from his possession.
He was allegedly the key link between the arms racket and the ISI, helping the Pakistani intelligence agency to supply illegal weapons across the country to fan terror activities.
So far, the police have arrested 14 accused in connection with the racket and recovered 25 weapons and 221 live cartridges. The seized weapons are said to be used by professional criminals and terrorists.
The investigators have said that their network was spread across several states and had links with the ISI.
Preliminary investigation has also revealed that they were being supplied these high-end weapons from across the border.
Agencies are now trying to ascertain whether the arrested accused had planned to use these weapons for any specific attack.
The development comes amid a high alert in national capital Delhi following intelligence inputs of a possible terror threat, prompting security agencies, including police to heighten security near sensitive locations across the city.
