Delhi Metro services returned to normal on Sunday after days of restrictions across central Delhi. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed that all Metro stations on the network are now fully open, allowing passengers to use both entry and exit gates without any restrictions.
In an update shared on X, the DMRC announced, “Service Update: All stations of the Delhi Metro network are open (both entry and exit) for passenger services.” The announcement brought relief to thousands of daily commuters who had been facing disruptions because of security measures linked to the protest at Jantar Mantar.
Restrictions had affected 18 major stations
For several days, security agencies had imposed staggered closures and movement restrictions at some of Delhi’s busiest Metro stations. The measures were taken as large crowds gathered for the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) agitation at Jantar Mantar.
The affected stations included Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi.
Security barriers removed after protest ended
Authorities lifted the restrictions after the CJP officially called off its sit-in at Jantar Mantar. Security personnel and law enforcement agencies reviewed the situation and removed barricades placed around major Metro stations in central Delhi.
With the protest ending, normal passenger movement resumed across the Metro network, restoring one of the city’s busiest public transport systems to regular operations.
Internet services also restored
Along with Metro services, mobile internet connectivity has also restored in and around the Jantar Mantar protest site as well as nearby parts of central Delhi.
The administration had suspended internet services in the area for several days while the youth-led demonstrations over alleged NEET-UG examination irregularities continued to grow. Officials had cited security concerns behind the temporary restrictions.
CJP withdraws agitation after government assurances
The Cockroach Janata Party said it decided to end its protest after receiving assurances from the Central government regarding its key demands.
CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das said the organisation was withdrawing the agitation “in good faith” with the understanding that the commitments made during discussions would be implemented within the agreed timelines.
The protest had become part of a larger movement demanding changes in the examination system and accountability over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.
