In a significant decision to tackle air pollution in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced the highly anticipated Delhi EV Policy 2026 to promote Zero Emission Vehicles.
The policy, which will come into effect on July 1 and remain in force till March 31, 2030, was approved by the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Cabinet.
A formal approval by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena is expected soon.
Addressing a press conference, CM Gupta said that her government will invest nearly Rs 7,000 crore over the next four years to upgrade the infrastructure.
She also announced that tax waivers and incentives worth Rs 8,000 crore will be passed on to EV users.
“Overall benefits of approximately Rs 15,000 crore, including tax exemptions and EV infrastructure, will accrue to citizens,” she announced.
The Delhi CM said that the main objective of the policy is to make the city a pollution-free and clean transport capital by promoting Zero Emission Vehicles and to help the capital become a Smart City.
