Delhi government employees observed a five-minute silence outside their respective offices on Thursday as a protest against the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash by AAP MLAs.

The five-minute silence was observed at Delhi Secretariat, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) headquarters, the Women and Child Development department among other offices.

The IAS Association said that the silent protest would be observed everyday till steps are taken to “ensure the safety and dignity” of the government staff in the city.

The Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash had on Tuesday alleged that he was manhandled by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmakers at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on late Monday night.

Following the allegation, the IAS Association on Tuesday took the decision that officers would not meet or talk even over the phone to the Chief Minister, his ministers or MLAs till Kejriwal apologised and took action.

“The assault on the Chief Secretary has breached the faith of all government employees in the political executive of Delhi.

“The employees of Delhi Government and other organisations will observe a five minute silence outside their respective offices to express their anguish over the breach of faith by the political executive,” it said in a statement.

Both the alleged attackers — Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal — have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Earlier in the day, AAP Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam was detained on Thursday as he was moving towards Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence along with some party workers to protest against the “casteist remarks” made by Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash.

This came two days after the Aam Aadmi Party’s Ambedkar Nagar MLA Ajay Dutt filed a police complaint against Prakash for making the remarks during a meeting at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Monday night.

Meanwhile, AAP leader AAP leader Ashutosh has said that Delhi Police was “biased” against party MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal, while adding that mob who mishandled and heckled — AAP Minister Imran Hussain and beating up his staffer Himanshu Singh and Ashish Khetan and his aide Sahil Arora– are still at large
