The Dehradun police claimed to have solved the murder mystery of a woman who was killed by an unidentified shooter in the state capital on 7 May. The live-in partner of 23-year-old Samarjahan, his son and wife, and a contract shooter from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in the case.

According to the police, Samarjahan was putting pressure on her live-in partner Rakesh Gupta for marriage and a share in his property. Due to his relationship with this woman, officers said, Gupta’s family life was in turmoil and he used to regularly fight with his wife Seema.

The police said as Rakesh Gupta was fed up with Samarjahan’s “pressure tactics”, his son Kartik worked out the plan in consent him and Seema. Kartik allegedly approached a contract killer in Muzaffarnagar promising to pay him Rs 4 lakh for the job. Kartik paid the contract killer, Momin, Rs 2 lakh as advance in December 2018, according to the police.
