A retired Army officer, Brigadier VK Joshi, was killed after being hit by a bullet while on his morning walk in Dehradun on Monday, officials said.
The incident unfolded in the Rajpur police station area, near Tula Apartments in Johri village, where the officer died at the spot.
According to officials present at the scene, the gunfire was linked to a confrontation between occupants of two vehicles. During the exchange, a bullet struck the retired Brigadier, who was walking nearby.
SP City Dehradun Pramod Kumar, in a self-recorded video statement, confirmed that Brigadier VK Joshi was shot and died on the spot while out for his routine walk in Johri village earlier in the day.
An eyewitness recounted the sequence of events, saying, “During a morning walk, I saw an incident, and on reaching the spot, the people who were with the Brigadier said that he had been shot. It was said that people in 2 vehicles were firing at each other…”
Police begin probe, assailants yet to be identified
Police teams reached the location soon after the incident and have begun an investigation. The attackers have not yet been identified.
