The Ministry of Defence website ( https://mod.gov.in/) was reportedly ‘hacked’ on Friday. There were suspicions that it was the handiwork of Chinese hackers.

The website flashed an ‘error’ message when attempts were made to reach the site.  “The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later” was the message that appeared when the link was clicked.

Defence Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman took to micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote that the issue with the MoD website has been taken note of and that the appropriate action has been initiated.

The efforts are currently on to restore the website, officials said.

“We are seized of the matter. The National Informatics Centre, which maintains the website, is trying to restore it,” PTI quoted a spokesperson in the ministry as saying.
