Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda, along with a party delegation, visited the residence of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar here on Saturday to pay tribute and express condolences. During the visit, he read out the condolence letter sent by Congress Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi.
Addressing reporters, Hooda expressed concern over reports that the post-mortem was conducted without the family’s consent, calling it “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
He added that the pace of justice in the past two to three days has been inadequate, and the family remains dissatisfied with the actions taken so far. “The satisfaction of the family is paramount; only then will the citizens and society feel justice has been served,” Hooda said.
Stressing for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into Puran Kumar’s alleged suicide should be conducted under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge to ensure impartiality and credibility, he urged the government to ensure that justice is delivered promptly and transparently, without any interference in the investigation.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Hooda remarked, “If a senior and talented IPS officer of ADGP rank is driven to such a tragic step, one can imagine the underlying issues. Allegations of harassment, caste discrimination, and maltreatment of senior police officers raise serious questions about the system.”
“When even the officers responsible for upholding law and order are under suspicion, it is natural for the system itself to be questioned. This system failed to ensure justice even for its brightest officers.”
Hooda reaffirmed that the opposition will continue to fight at all levels until the family receives justice.
The Congress delegation included former Haryana Pradesh Congress President Chaudhary Udaybhan, MP Varun Mulana, MLAs Nirmal Singh, Geeta Bhukkal, Shakuntala Khatak, Naresh Selwal, and Haryana Congress SC Department Chairman Manoj Bagri.
