A day after BJP’s victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday issued a lookout notice against Kolkata DCP Shantanu Sinha Biswas in connection with a money laundering case.
The lookout notice against DCP Biswas, considered to be close to Mamata Banerjee, was issued by the central agency after he allegedly evaded multiple notices.
The probe agency believes the Kolkata police official may escape and leave the country.
The notice was issued in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation linked to the Sona Pappu alias Biswajit Poddar syndicate case.
The central probe agency had summoned DCP Biswas for questioning on April 28, a day before the second and final phase of polling in West Bengal.
Earlier, the probe agency had raided Biswas’s Golpark residence and several other locations in connection with the case.
Biswas is purportedly known to be close to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. He was seen on stage with Mamata during a recent protest. At the time, the TMC had claimed that Biswas was deployed for Banerjee’s security.
