Cyclone Ditavah, which has left a trail of destruction across Sri Lanka, claiming nearly 200 lives, is now approaching the Indian coastline.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday reported that the storm is expected to have its most severe impact on Tamil Nadu, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and surface winds reaching up to 27 kmph.
Authorities have issued cautionary alerts for Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, and West Bengal as the system continues to hover close to the eastern coast.
Under Operation Sagar Bandhu, India has dispatched rescue and relief teams to assist Sri Lanka in ongoing recovery efforts.
Disaster-response units have also been strategically deployed across vulnerable Indian coastal regions in preparation for any emergency triggered by the approaching cyclone.
