In a major crackdown on secessionist and unlawful elements in Jammu and Kashmir, Budgam Police on Wednesday attached the head office of the banned organisation Tehreek-e- Hurriyat (TeH) under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).
The organisation was founded in 2004 by pro-Pakistan separatist leader late Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
The seized building is located in Hyderpora on the outskirts of Srinagar and has long served as a hub of separatist activities.
The attachment of the three-storey structure was carried out under Section 25 of the UAPA, 1967, as part of an ongoing crackdown on entities accused of engaging in subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The property is built on one kanal and one marla of land.
Police said the building had been functioning as the central office of TeH, which was banned by the Government of India for its alleged role in promoting separatist ideology and facilitating terrorist activities in J&K.
The TeH has long been under the scanner of security agencies. The organisation was formally banned along with Jamaat-e-Islami and several other outfits after being accused of links with terrorism and for promoting anti-national activities.
Several leaders and cadres of the banned organisations were jailed under the UAPA and their properties seized.
