CPI MP and Leader of the Party in the Rajya Sabha, P Sandosh Kumar, has written a letter to former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressing concern over his abrupt resignation from office and his absence from public life since then, according to a press statement.

In the statement, Sandosh Kumar recalled that Dhankhar’s resignation from the posts of Vice-President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha a month ago — citing “health reasons” — had shocked Parliament and the nation. “While differences during his tenure in the Chair were natural, the dignity of the office he held was always respected,” he wrote.

“What has raised further anxiety, the letter notes, is Dhankhar’s complete silence and withdrawal since stepping down. He has not addressed the press, appeared in public, or attended scheduled events. Such an absence, following a resignation on health grounds, has sparked deep concern among lawmakers and citizens about his well-being,” he said in the press release.

The CPI MP urged Dhankhar to issue a statement and reassure both Parliament and the public at the earliest. “While the process to elect his successor is already underway, clarity and reassurance from Shri Dhankhar himself would help dispel speculation, unease, and unanswered questions surrounding his unprecedented resignation,” the statement added.

Sandosh Kumar stressed that the appeal was made with “utmost sincerity” and full respect for the dignity of the high constitutional office Dhankhar held, but underlined the need for transparency to address growing public concern.
