Convocations in Madhya Pradesh embrace Indian traditions: CM Dr Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Monday expressed happiness that past practices have been corrected, noting that instead of western robes, caps, and sashes, graduating students in the state now wear traditional Indian attire such as kurta-pajama, saree, and safa during convocation ceremonies.

The CM, along with Madhya Pradesh Governor and Chancellor Mangubhai Patel, was addressing the convocation of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, held at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre.

“Correcting past mistakes, convocations are now being organized according to Indian traditions,” Dr. Yadav remarked.

He added that in Madhya Pradesh, the Vice-Chancellor has been given the new title of Kulguru, which has also been adopted by Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. The CM further highlighted that the state government pioneered medical education in Hindi, an initiative that received wide appreciation.

Dr Yadav stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indians are establishing their identity on the global stage through their own capabilities. He emphasized that the study of all Indian languages is being actively encouraged and strengthened.

“Every language spoken in Indian states is a national language of India,” the Chief Minister stressed.

Governor and Chancellor Mangubhai Patel urged students to remain grateful to their parents and teachers, and to uphold the convocation oath throughout their lives.

He emphasized that universities play a crucial role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a new, digital, and developed India. He noted that convocation is not merely the conclusion of an academic journey, but the beginning of a life dedicated to serving society and the nation. It is, he said, the culmination of years of hard work, discipline, and the invaluable guidance of teachers.

Governor Patel awarded degrees and gold medals to students and congratulated them.

He also extended best wishes to Barkatullah University for securing an ‘A’ grade from NAAC for its efforts in education, research, and innovation, and for becoming the only university in the state to find a place in the Global World University Rankings.
