Noting that India was a young nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon all constitutional bodies to join hands to ensure a “new” and “strengthened” India by 2022 — the 75th anniversary of country’s independence.

Delivering the Valedictory address on National Law Day at Vigyan Bhawan, Modi said: “We have lost this opportunity once in the 20th century but now in the 21st century, we will have to take a resolution that we built a new, strengthened India,” he said.

“As we get ready to celebrate 75 years of Independence, we must transform India into a nation that our freedom fighters dreamt of. For this every constitutional body will have to channelize its energies towards achieving this goal,” he added.

Modi said government, judiciary and bureaucracy were all members of the same family and must support each other to meet the expectations that the people of the country have from them.

“On Constitution Day, we have to answer an important question, as members of the same family are we working together to strengthen one another, in support of each other,” Modi said.

He also praised the architect of Indian constitution and said: “Baba Saheb said that Constitution is workable, flexible and has power to unite the nation in times of war and peace.”

The two-day meet, inaugurated on Saturday by President Ram Nath Kovind was organised jointly by the Law Commission and Niti Aayog on the National Law Day.

A large number of dignitaries from the executive, legislature and judiciary along with the academicians, students, and scribes took part in the deliberations to reflect upon the guiding principles enshrined in the constitution and the commitment of India’s democracy to the rule of law.
