Veteran Congress leader and former Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Narain Dutt Tiwari provided a fresh dent to Congress by joining BJP with his son Rohit Shekhar in New Delhi on Wednesday. Ignored by Congress, ND was left with little options to help his biological son Rohit make progress in political field.

In a move to get Congress ticket for his son, Tiwari approached Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat and other leaders many times. In fact Tiwari is camping in Uttarakhand since two and half months for this special project.

After receiving no positive signal from Uttarakhand Congress, 91-year-old Tiwari changed gear to take BJP’s help and its membership. The veteran leader joined the saffron brigade in the presence of BJP national president Amit Shah in New Delhi.

The move is a setback for Harish Rawat as many senior Congress leaders from Uttarakhand have been deserting the party at regular intervals. Last year, Vijay Bahuguna and eight other MLAs became Congress rebels to join BJP. Very recently ex-Uttarakhand Congress president and cabinet minister Yashpal Arya turncoat with son Sanjeev.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harsh Rawat remained tight lipped on the Tiwari episode but charged BJP by saying, “BJP wants to capture power in Uttarakhand by any means. The rift in BJP, after the party announced the candidate list, clearly indicates that all is not well in BJP.”

After getting booted out of Andhra Pradesh Governor house, due to the sex scandal at Raj Bhawan in 2009, Tiwari was completely neglected by his party. The former UP-Uttarakhand chief minister was not invited at any official programme hosted by the state government and also in the functions of Congress party.

Tiwari has been spending his time in Delhi, Lucknow and Uttarakhand. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh and his son UP Chief Minister Akhlesh Yadav provided due respect to the octagon political leaders to allow him spend most part of the year in Lucknow and other parts of UP.

Even at an advanced age Tiwari knows many advanced tricks of Indian politics. Tiwari forced political rival Harish Rawat to attend his 90th birthday at Haldwani on 18 October 2015. For this Tiwari used the simple trick, invited UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to compel Rawat attend his birthday bash.

Tiwari might not be physically that strong, but he is still active mentally as in his prime days. With a good following in Kumoan region, Tiwari can cause damage to Congress in many seats.
