Congress veteran Bharat Singh Kundanpur passes away

Veteran Congress leader and former Minister Bharat Singh Kundanpur has passed away at the S M S Hospital here after protracted illness. He was 75.

A prominent leader of Harauti-Kota region, Kundanpur, was suffering from respiratory diseases. He was being treated at the Kota Medical College for a prolonged spell. In view of his declining health, he was referred to the SMS Hospital here about a month ago where he breathed his last around 10:00pm Monday night.

Born on August 15,1950 in Kundanpur village under Sangod town of Kota district, the four timer ex-MLA had begun his political career from the humble village level, winning thrice the post of Sarpanch in the gram panchayat of his native village Kundanpur, served as Pradhan of the Sangod Panchayat Samiti for 10 years and also served his own ward as a ward panch for 5 years.

He represented Sangod assembly segment in the 4 terms of House and worked as the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister in the Ashok Gehlot led government (2008 – 2013).

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and several dignitaries condoled Kundanpur’s death.

Birla said, “It is very sad news, KundanpurJi in his life remained fully dedicated to serving for people’s cause, his demise is a loss to Harauti in particular and the state in general.”

Assembly speaker Devnani while expressing grief and sorrow over the death of the four-term MLA, prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

Ex-CM Gehlot expressed grief over the demise of his former cabinet colleague and described the death as huge loss personally to himself and to the Congress too.
