The Congress on Friday announced that it will take legal action against several BJP leaders and social media influencers for misrepresenting Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag, an elected councillor, and attempting to defame the party. According to Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, the BJP leaders and influencers shared a picture and footage of someone, falsely claiming it was Tsepag.
“We are proceeding with legal recourse and criminal proceedings against all those who have not just attempted to defame our party but have also tried to cause social unrest to fuel further dissensions,” Khera said. “Instead of sensitively engaging with the betrayed people of Ladakh, the BJP and their media/social media minions are engaging in their usual mudslinging and looking for an opportunity to milk the outrage of Ladakh and settle scores with political opponents,” he added.
The controversy highlights the growing tensions between the Congress and the BJP, with both sides engaging in a war of words over various issues. The Congress has accused the BJP of attempting to exploit the situation in Ladakh for political gain.
The Congress party’s decision to take legal action against the BJP leaders and influencers marks a significant escalation in the row. Khera’s statement suggests that the party is determined to take a strong stance against what it sees as attempts to defame it and cause social unrest.
The controversy has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many users criticising the BJP for its alleged attempts to manipulate public opinion. The Congress’ decision to take legal action is likely to further intensify the debate and raise questions about the role of social media in politics.
