The Congress on Tuesday sharpened its attack on the BJP over a Supreme Court-directed CBI preliminary inquiry into allegations of conflict of interest involving the family of the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, with senior party leader Jairam Ramesh questioning why the Chief Minister remains in office despite the apex court’s intervention.

‎In a post on X, Ramesh said that on April 6, 2026, a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to initiate a preliminary inquiry into allegations that contracts worth Rs 1,270 crore had been awarded to the Chief Minister’s family between January 2015 and December 2025.

‎“It was on April 6, 2026, that a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court directed the CBI to commence a preliminary inquiry into allegations that the Arunachal Pradesh CM’s family was awarded contracts worth Rs 1,270 crore over 10 years from Jan 2015 to Dec 2025 in a direct conflict of interest,” Ramesh said.

‎The Congress leader stressed that the order had come from the Supreme Court itself and not from a lower judicial forum.

‎“This is not an order of a lower court or a High Court. It is of the Supreme Court. Yet the CM continues in office. He is also the PWD Minister and controls the files that the CBI will need to conduct its inquiry,” he said.
‎Ramesh also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to the BJP’s anti-corruption slogan.
‎“Why is the man who once said ‘Na Khayunga Na Khane Doonga’ quiet and why has the Arunachal Pradesh CM not been asked to step down? This is a gross travesty of the Supreme Court’s verdict itself,” he said.

‎Stepping up the attack further, Ramesh alleged that there were “other BJP CMs as well who fall in the category of the Arunachal Pradesh CM”, though he did not identify any Chief Ministers by name.

‎The remarks come amid an escalating political controversy over allegations of impropriety and conflict of interest in the awarding of public contracts in Arunachal Pradesh. The Supreme Court’s order directing a preliminary inquiry has intensified scrutiny of the matter, with the opposition demanding accountability and transparency from the state government.

‎The Arunachal Pradesh government has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to public contracts and governance matters.
