Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Operation Sindoor, questioning the government’s transparency and accountability in handling national security issues. Ramesh also demanded a two-day parliamentary discussion on internal and external security challenges.
In a post shared on handle X ahead of the debate on Pahalgam-Op Sindoor slated to be held in Parliament from Monday, Ramesh urged PM Modi to also chair an all-party meeting to discuss security challenges and take leaders into confidence on issues like the Pahalgam terror attack.
“The Lok Sabha is scheduled to begin a 16-hour debate on Pahalgam-Op Sindoor tomorrow, and the Rajya Sabha is set to do so the day after tomorrow. The INC had been demanding a special two-day session of Parliament immediately after Operation Sindoor was abruptly halted. That demand was ignored. Nevertheless, better late than never,“ Ramesh said.
Demanding a separate two-day discussion in Parliament on internal and external security challenges, including China, Pakistan, and emerging technologies, Ramesh questioned when the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack would be brought to justice.
Citing the Kargil Review Committee set up by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee after the Kargil war, Ramesh demanded a similar exercise to review Operation Sindoor.
Ramesh also criticised the government’s global outreach campaign under Operation Sindoor, saying it was a “public relations exercise” to divert attention from pressing domestic security concerns.
The government had formed seven international delegations to project India’s united stand against terrorism, especially state-sponsored threats from Pakistan. These delegations had visited key international capitals, including Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The Congress has also accused the government of withholding information and demanded a comprehensive review of India’s defence preparedness.
