The oldest political party operational in India which has ruled around seven decades in the country is left out with no office in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, and functions through WhatsApp.

The Congress insists that it would reclaim its lost ground before 2022 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party is preparing with full enthusiasm for the Assembly elections in UP, as recently it has elected a new President for the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

The party workers in the district told that they have informed Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra about the situation, but there is no response from her so far.

However, the district Congress President Nirmala Paswan said that the party will soon get its office in the district.

Senior party leader Syed Jamal told that the office in the district was started by the former district Congress party President late Bhrigunath Chaturvedi in Purdilpur, Gorakhpur which was operational till 2017.

“But we had to vacate the office in 2017 because the ownership rights were with someone else. Since then the Congress does not have a proper office of its own, and meetings are usually held in marriage halls,” he said.

Currently the party is informally using a house in Charuchandrapuri as a makeshift office.

“But most of the time, we work through WhatsApp. When meetings are to be held, we hire marriage halls,” said a party functionary.
