Taking a serious view of reports of internal discord in its Jammu and Kashmir unit, the Congress high command on Friday constituted a three-member committee to investigate complaints of indiscipline and anti-party activities by certain senior party leaders.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the panel to address the ongoing rift and factionalism amid which the PCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra and AICC member and MLA GA Mir were being targeted.

The panel will be headed by Shaktisinh Gohil as the Convenor, with Dr. Amar Singh and Rafeek Khan as its members.

According to an official press release issued by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, the proposal was approved by the Congress President and comes into effect immediately.
However, the AICC statement did not specify the individuals or incidents that prompted the constitution of the enquiry panel.

The move came amid persistent internal friction within the J&K Congress, where sections of the state leadership have repeatedly questioned the party’s alliance strategy with the National Conference. The poll alliance did not work at various places and the National Conference and Congress candidates fought the election against each other.

Congress activists were reportedly also annoyed with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who, they claim, has completely sidelined the party which had a pre-poll alliance with the National Conference. The six Congress MLAs were not invited by the CM during the recent review of the functioning of the government.

Sources indicate that differences over seat-sharing, organisational control, and the overall approach in J&K have intensified in the recent months, prompting the high command to intervene directly.

The committee has reportedly been tasked with thoroughly examining the complaints and submitting its findings at the earliest.

Party workers have also alleged that tickets were distributed unfairly and that some leaders undermined the party’s election strategy.
The central panel will examine these allegations and determine further disciplinary action against those harming the party’s interests.
