‘Congress handed over Assam to infiltrators, BJP will take it back’: Amit Shah in Chaigaon

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of “handing over Assam to infiltrators.”

Addressing a rally in the poll-bound state’s Chaigaon, Shah said , “Assam is blessed by nature, but Congress handed Assam over to infiltrators. These infiltrators are grabbing the land of the poor. They even grabbed Kaziranga forest land.”

Shah claimed that in the 10 years of BJP rule in Assam, 1.5 lakh acres of land was freed from encroachers.

He vowed to hand-pick each and every infiltrator and deport them once the BJP returns to power for the third straight term.

“While we were in the process of removing them, the elections arrived. You make Himanta Da the Chief Minister again, and we will handpick each and every infiltrator and throw them out,” he said.

‘UCC will ensure no-one is allowed to have four marriages’

Shah asserted that the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam if re-elected.

“We will implement UCC in Assam, and after this, no one will be permitted to have four marriages,” he said, in an indirect reference to Muslims.

Demands Congress apology for ‘insulting’ Bhupen Hazarika

The Home Minister also accused the Opposition Congress of insulting Assam’s cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika and demanded an apology from the party.

“When PM Modi gave Bharat Ratna to Shri Bhupen Hazarika, the Congress President made a remark saying that PM Modi gave Bharat Ratna to a singer. This is not an insult to PM Modi, this is an insult to Shri Bhupen Hazarika. For this, he should apologise to the people of Assam,” he added.

On the welfare front, Shah promised every woman will receive 3,000 rupees per month, while farmers will receive Rs 11,000 assistance annually. He also promised government jobs to two lakh youth in the state.
