The Opposition Congress on Tuesday announced nationwide protests against the alleged conspiracy of “vote theft” as it plans to take the issue to the people.
A meeting of AICC general secretaries, in-charges, and heads of frontal organisations was held in this regard at party headquarters in Delhi where the issue of vote theft was taken up “very seriously”.
In the meeting, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said there are 48 Lok Sabha constituencies where the party lost the elections to the BJP by a narrow margin and the same module as that of the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seats was adopted.
According to top party sources, the Congress will reveal information about these seats in a phased manner over the next few days.
At the meeting, it was decided that the party will fight with full strength and every worker of the party ensure the “vote theft” issue reaches every district and panchayat.
“Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has exposed the conspiracy of vote theft with evidence. It is clear that democracy is being strangled today…In such a situation, the Congress party will fight against this vote theft with full strength,” Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar said in a video statement.
He announced three major programs to raise the issue among masses.
On the eve of Independence Day, i.e., on the night of 14 August, the Congress party will organize a ‘Save Democracy Torch Procession’ in all district headquarters across the country.
From 22 August to 7 September, a ‘Vote Thief-Leave the Throne’ rally will be organized in all state headquarters across the country.
The Congress will also run a month-long ‘Signature Campaign’ across the country from September 15 to October 15.
This comes a day after Rahul Gandhi led a march from Parliament to the Election Commission of India office in protest against the alleged “vote theft” and the Bihar SIR exercise.
Over 300 Opposition MPs from both the Houses of Parliament participated in the march.
