Launching a scathing attack on the BJP government, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said, “bluff, bluster and intimidation have been the governance philosophy of the Modi government”.

Truth and transparency have been brazenly tossed aside, she said in her speech at the Congress Parliamentary Party’s general body meeting.

The meeting was attended by her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad, among others.

In her tirade against the ruling government, Sonia Gandhi said under the BJP rule, “institutions have been subverted, political opponents hounded, dissent suppressed and freedom of speech curtailed and silenced”.

Mentioning a few burning issues, she said there was an all-pervasive atmosphere of fear and strife across the country.

Tension over the citizenship bill in the Northeast, unrest in Kashmir, problems faced by Dalits, Adivasis and minorities, farmer distress, and the jobless youth were some of the major issues highlighted by the Congress leader.

Hoping towards the party’s revival in the country, Sonia said, “We go to the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls with renewed confidence and resolve. Our victories in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have given us new hope”.

Lauding Rahul Gandhi, she further said, “Our opponents were earlier projected as being invincible. The Congress president took them head-on, mobilising and motivating lakhs of our workers who, with him, gave their all”.

“He has worked tirelessly. He has also reached out to other political parties who share our vision of India,” she added.
