In the wake of the communal violence in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday sought a report from the state government.

According to reports, a communal violence broke out in North 24 Parganas district on Monday over a controversial Facebook post, following which several shops were torched and houses ransacked in Baduria, Tentulia and Golabari areas.

Internet services have also been suspended and Section 144 has been imposed in the most turbulent areas.

On Monday, the Centre rushed 300 paramilitary personnel to the disturbed place to assist the local police in containing the situation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed the incident and said in Kolkata that the clashes between members of the two communities have broken out in Baduria in Basirhat sub-division of the district over the "objectionable" post.

The West Bengal government has dispatched a special team of the state police and Kolkata Police to the riot-hit area to monitor the situation.

The chief minister also appealed to top leaders of both the communities that her government would not tolerate "this hooliganism".
