After Monday’s fire at a coaching center in Lucknow, which claimed 15 lives, the Uttar Pradesh government ordered inspections of all coaching centers, hotels, and other business complexes in the state to ensure compliance with safety norms.
Police, Fire officials, and district authorities have conducted raids on coaching institutes and hotels across the state.
Officials here on Tuesday said so far, 43 coaching institutes and three hotels have been sealed in different districts as they lacked adequate fire safety arrangements.
Raids were conducted on coaching institutes and hotels in 20 cities of UP
which included Kanpur, Agra, Meerut, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Noida, Bahraich, and Varanasi.
So far, 30 coaching institutes have been sealed in Kanpur, two in Varanasi, and one each in Prayagraj, Noida and Mathura.
In addition, two hotels in Bareilly and one in Mathura have been sealed.
Officials said police are inspecting safety standards at coaching institutes and hotels, including whether the buildings have fire safety systems, whether emergency gates are in place, and whether adequate emergency response arrangements have been made.
A report from Prayagraj said that in the Sangam city action has also been initiated against coaching institutes on the orders of Rishi Raj, Vice Chairman of the Prayagraj Development Authority.
Khan Sir’s Khan Global Classes coaching institute, located in Civil Lines, has been sealed for failing to meet standards.
The PDA enforcement team, led by Zone 1 Zonal Officer Gangesh Kumar Singh, sealed Khan Global Classes. Students were evacuated before the coaching institute was sealed. The office was also closed, following which the sealing action was initiated. Following the sealing, a notice was posted outside the coaching institute. Anyone breaking the seal or resuming coaching without permission will face an FIR.
According to Zonal Officer Gangesh Kumar Singh, the building where Khan Global Classes was operating has an approved map for commercial use. However, coaching operations fall under community service. This action was taken due to the lack of community facility land use approval.
