Amid high expectations of Jammu and Kashmir making a maiden clinch of the Ranji Trophy, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday flew to Hubli to cheer for the UT’s cricket team that will play the finals with Karnataka.
Jammu & Kashmir made history by reaching their first-ever final after defeating Bengal by six wickets in Kalyani on Wednesday. Sharing a photograph from a flight, Omar wrote on X; “On our way to Hubli to cheer the J&K cricket team as they play the final of the Ranji Trophy. They’ve already made lakhs of people so very proud of their achievements by reaching the final. I’m really looking forward to spending the day tomorrow in the stands cheering them on”.
“A landmark moment for J&K cricket, with hopes, prayers and unwavering support of the entire region behind our team,” another post on the X handle of the Office of Chief Minister said.
The chief minister, who was accompanied by his political advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Tanvir Sadiq, expressed pride in the team’s performance, stating that by reaching the final they have already made lakhs of people proud across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir team’s entry into the Ranji Trophy final has generated widespread enthusiasm across the Union Territory, with supporters hailing the achievement as a landmark in the region’s sporting history.
