Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated
Tulip Show-2026 at the Tulip Garden, Srinagar and took a round of the
garden.
This year, around 18 lakh tulips of over 70 varieties, along with
nearly one lakh other bulbous flowers including daffodils, hyacinths
and narcissus, have been planted, adding vibrant colours to the
valley’s spring landscape.
The Chief Minister appealed to tourists from across the country and
around the world to visit Jammu & Kashmir during the spring season and
experience its unmatched natural beauty.
He hoped that the tourism sector bounces back from the setbacks of last year.
Omar was accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues and National Conference
MLAs to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden on Chashma Shahi Road
along the Dal Lake.
Omar also said that efforts are underway to develop tulip bulbs
locally to save the expenditure on importing them from the
Netherlands. “This will save foreign exchange as well,” he said
On security at tourist places, Omar said those responsible for
security would definitely make their presence felt at all the tourist
destinations.
The garden was opened for visitors almost 10 days ahead of schedule,
as the Valley experienced warmer days that led to early blooming of
the flowers.
The garden, which was added to the tourist spots of Kashmir in 2008,
is usually opened for visitors in the last week of March.
Cultural events were also lined up to add to the attraction.
The response was encouraging on the opening day, as a large number of
tourists and locals were seen waiting outside the garden before its
formal opening.
