Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday said that as a sensitive border state, Punjab faces constant attempts by Pakistan-backed anti-social elements and drone intrusions to disrupt peace, asserting that the Punjab Police not only guards the state but the entire nation.

Addressing a Passing-Out Parade at the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) Ground in Jalandhar, the Chief Minister formally inducted 2,577 newly-trained personnel into the force, reiterating his government’s commitment to strengthening law and order while creating large-scale employment.

Describing the recruitment as part of the government’s employment revolution, Mann said that more than 12,010 police personnel have been recruited since March 2022. He added that ₹1,100 crore has been allocated to modernise the force on scientific lines, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence, the establishment of specialised technical units, and the strengthening of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force to tackle cybercrime, terrorism, and drug trafficking.

Highlighting the preparedness of the Punjab Police, the Chief Minister said the force has been upgraded with modern infrastructure, highly-trained personnel, and technical expertise to effectively counter emerging challenges. He noted that specialised professionals, including technical experts, forensic specialists, IT professionals, and legal officers, have been inducted to enhance investigative capabilities.

Mann also underlined the success of the state’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh,’ which has led to over 50,000 arrests and significant seizures of narcotics. He said the government is simultaneously focusing on rehabilitation through de-addiction centres and awareness campaigns.

Emphasising the importance of continuous recruitment, he said the process is ongoing, with new batches under training and further recruitment planned. Congratulating the recruits, Mann urged them to serve with dedication, uphold the glorious legacy of Punjab Police, and play a proactive role in maintaining peace, safeguarding national unity, and ensuring justice for citizens.

Earlier, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav welcomed the Chief Minister and congratulated the new personnel.
