Nearly 11-lakh students who took the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12th examination earlier this year are nervous due to the uncertainty over the declaration of results. Their worries are increasing every passing day especially because the process for admission to undergraduate courses has already begun. Delhi University has started the process of registrations for admission at the colleges affiliated to it.

Even as the Delhi High Court asked the CBSE not to scrap its ‘moderation policy’, there is no clarity on what the CBSE is going to do. If the board implements the court order, it will take time to revise the marks of the students after giving them the grace marks for the difficult questions, which may delay results further.

The statement of Union Education Minister Prakash Javadekar that the CBSE will declare the results on time added to the confusion. "The CBSE results will be declared on time, the date will be declared by the CBSE. No need to worry about court's order, justice will be done to all," Javadekar said.
The High court had termed the board's move to scrap the policy as "irresponsible". The decision to do away with the marks moderation policy was challenged by a parent and a lawyer, who argued that this will have a "drastic effect on the students". The petitioners said it will have an adverse impact especially on students planning to study abroad.

The results were initially expected on Wednesday, but that didn’t happen and there was no statement from the CBSE to clear the air. Anxious students were glued to the board’s website (cbse.nic.in) expecting the results or a new date.

The board is under pressure to declare results, which got delayed because of the state elections earlier this year. Students can keep an eye on the developments, if any, at board’s website — cbse.nic.in.

What is marks moderation policy

Under the board’s moderation policy, if the board tested students on three different sets of questions papers for an examination, for the question paper perceived as toughest, a student may get extra marks irrespective of his or her score.
After the exams were held earlier this year, the government had said the practice will be discontinued.
