Government representatives handed over copies of Bihar and Assam orders protecting NEET protesters from further legal action during a late-night meeting with the Cockroach Janta Party, the organisation said on Tuesday.
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das claimed the discussions lasted between two and three hours. He said the party was also assured that authorities would not proceed against protesters in Rajasthan and that further notifications would be issued by the Centre and other BJP/NDA-ruled states.

Late-night meeting follows CJP warning of fresh protests
The talks were held hours after the CJP accused authorities of breaching an agreement on the treatment of demonstrators and warned that protests could resume if earlier commitments were not honoured.
“Hours after our press conference, Government’s representatives met us. The meeting lasted for 2-3 hours. They shared copies of the Bihar and Assam notifications guaranteeing FIR withdrawals, no action in future, and release of all detainees and arrestees,” Das wrote on X.
“They’ve reiterated their promise of releasing guarantee-notifications by union government and other BJP/NDA states by tomorrow. Hopefully, the agreed upon language shall be used. No protester will be left alone. We are all in this together!” he added.
The Bihar government has begun steps to withdraw cases linked to the protests and release those detained. Assam has also announced the withdrawal of legal proceedings and ruled out fresh action against those covered by its decision.
Assam order covers five cases and 13 arrests
The Assam Home and Political Department said five cases had been registered in the state in connection with the demonstrations. Thirteen people had been arrested.
The state said it would begin the process of withdrawing cases registered before 6 pm on July 26, irrespective of their stage. Arrests and detentions would also be reviewed so that those held could be released expeditiously.
It said no further adverse action was proposed against the individuals involved and that the matter would be treated as closed without future proceedings.
The Bihar government similarly said cases against protesters would be withdrawn and detained participants released.
CJP seeks written protection for protesters
Das said party representatives had demanded written assurances because they feared that verbal commitments made during earlier negotiations might not be implemented.
“We told them that we were worried the assurances given by the government may not be fulfilled. In response, they brought along the Bihar Home Department’s press release stating that all FIRs against protesters would be withdrawn and that no action would be taken against them in the future,” he said.
The two sides also discussed whether other state governments could issue similar orders to ensure uniform protection for those who had joined the demonstrations, according to Das.
“We sat together and discussed which other state governments could issue similar notifications so that no harm comes to protesters,” he said.
Rajasthan assurance yet to be backed by formal order
Das said the CJP had received an assurance that no authority would initiate action against protesters in Rajasthan.
“After Bihar and Assam notifications, we have just been guaranteed that no authority will proceed against protesters in Rajasthan. No FIRs have been registered. None will be,” he said.

CJP says more notifications expected
Das claimed the government had undertaken to issue further notifications by July 28.
“The government has guaranteed that notifications addressing our concerns in various states will be issued by tomorrow and that protesters will remain safe. No action will be taken against them in the future,” he said.
“We will make sure that not a single protester who participated in demonstrations in their city faces any legal action. We have stood with protesters from day one and will continue to stand with them,” he added.
The organisation had threatened to restart its agitation if its demand for legal protection was not fulfilled.
The movement ended its Jantar Mantar protest over the weekend after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the Union Council of Ministers on July 25. His exit had been one of the CJP’s principal demands.
