Spreading the message of “Justice for All,” Chief Justice of India BR Gavai on Sunday flagged off a walkathon organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
Speaking to the media under tight security, the Chief Justice, dressed in sportswear, said, “All institutions of democracy — the executive, legislature, and judiciary — exist for the citizens; therefore, ‘justice for all’ should be our motto.”
The event featured 4 km and 8 km runs, along with a 4 km walk, in which the CJI also participated alongside other Supreme Court judges including Justices Sanjay Karol, Vikram Nath, and JK Maheshwari, as well as several lawyers, an SCBA representative said. The walk commenced from the Supreme Court and concluded at India Gate.
Following the event, the Chief Justice, along with Justice Surya Kant and SCBA members, planted saplings in the names of the parents of former judges.
The morning run and walk saw large participation but also drew criticism from netizens who questioned the wisdom of holding such physically demanding activities in Delhi’s severely polluted air, where the AQI hovered above 400.
Similar concerns were raised by reporters, who asked whether conducting a marathon in such hazardous conditions was irresponsible. The CJI, however, chose not to respond and walked away.
