A Crime and Intelligence Wing (CIW) team from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) foiled a major drug smuggling attempt in the International Departure area of Terminal-3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
According to officials, during routine surveillance and behavioral profiling by CISF’s CIW team at the check-in area, a significant seizure of suspected psychotropic substance was executed at IGI T-3 on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday.
The substance was later confirmed as Hashish, totaling 4.411 kilograms.
The vigilant personnel observed a departing passenger bound for Amman via Sharjah, identified based on suspicious behaviour, and zeroed in on them for random screening at X-BIS gate no. 5.
During passenger baggage screening, the X-Ray baggage Screening System showed a suspicious image, warranting a detailed physical examination of the luggage. When personnel checked the bags, they recovered multiple packets suspected to contain narcotic, or psychotropic substances concealed inside newly purchased clothes.
The alert personnel immediately flagged the case, escalating it to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi Zone.
Accordingly, a team of the NCB arrived at the airport and conducted a field drug test of the recovered substance, and it yielded a positive result for Hashish (Charas), a psychotropic substance covered under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The recovered substance comprised 20 packets with a total weight of 4.411 kilograms.
Following confirmation, the NCB completed all legal formalities and prepared a Seizure List-cum-Panchnama.
The accused was apprehended, and the NCB team subsequently departed from the airport with the accused and seized exhibits for further proceedings.
