Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi inaugurates residential towers for Navy personnel at Karwar

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, inaugurated residential accommodation for Senior Sailors and Defence Civilians of the Indian Navy as part of Project Seabird Phase IIA at Naval Base, Karwar, on Tuesday.

The residential accommodation located east of Manzil Creek and Amdalli consists of four Towers of married senior sailors. The accommodation comprises 240 Dwelling Units (DUs), and four Towers comprising 240 DUs for Naval Defence Civilians. Once fully developed, the townships will comprise 2,160 accommodation units for Senior Sailors and 3,168 accommodation units for Defence Civilians. The buildings have been constructed by M/s NCC Ltd, Hyderabad.

These infrastructure developments are part of ongoing Phase IIA of Project Seabird which will support berthing of a large number of ships and submarines at Karwar. The project also includes a dual-use Naval Air Station, a full-fledged Naval Dockyard, four Covered Dry Berths and logistics for ships and aircraft. It will house approximately 10,000 uniformed and civilian personnel with families, significantly boosting the local economy, industry, and tourism. The ongoing construction of Phase IIA of Project Seabird has created 7,000 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs.

The project that conforms to extant norms of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF) and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) will be an IGBC Gold-rated project. upon completion, the release read.
