Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday paid tribute to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his death anniversary. Offering floral respects at his portrait at the Chief Minister’s residential office in Raipur, he described Savarkar as a towering figure whose life combined revolutionary zeal with intellectual depth.
The Chief Minister said Savarkar was not only a freedom fighter but also a nationalist thinker, social reformer, author, poet and historian who strengthened the ideological foundations of India’s independence movement. His writings and speeches, Sai observed, instilled a spirit of patriotism and self-respect among generations of Indians.
Recalling Savarkar’s incarceration in the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Chief Minister said his sacrifice, struggle and indomitable courage remain etched in the nation’s history. Despite the severe hardships of Kala Pani, Savarkar’s commitment to the cause of freedom never faltered, he added.
CM Sai emphasised that Savarkar’s life continues to inspire dedication to national service, inner strength and pride in the nation. He said the younger generation, in particular, can draw lessons from Savarkar’s resolve and intellectual clarity as India moves forward on the path of self-reliance and development.
Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Saurabh Singh, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency Bhupendra Savanni, Chief Minister’s Press Officer Alok Singh, Ram Garg and other public representatives were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that remembering Savarkar is not merely a ceremonial exercise but a reaffirmation of the ideals of courage, reform and national commitment that shaped India’s freedom struggle and continue to guide its future trajectory.
