Chhattisgarh boiler blast: PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for kin of deceased as toll rises to 10

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kins of deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured in Chhattisgarh boiler blast.

PM Modi also extended his condolences to families of who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident.

“The mishap at a power plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, is tragic. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, adding that the local administration is assisting those affected.

In a statement shared by the PMO on X, PM Modi further added, “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

At least 10 workers were killed and more than 20 others were wounded, several of them seriously, after a powerful blast at a Vedanta thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district.

Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur confirmed that 10 workers have died in the incident so far. The injured were initially rushed to nearby health centres before being referred to a private hospital in Raigarh

The impact of the explostion was so severe that it caused immediate casualties and widespread panic within the plant area in Singhitari village of the Sakti district.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He directed a high level probe into the incident and assured that accountability would be fixed.

“This is a deeply unfortunate incident. The government stands firmly with the affected families,” he added.
