Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, is likely to soon declare the separation of his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from the BJP-led national alliance NDA as the Centre has made it clear that the party’s demand for special status to the state cannot be met.

According to the media reports, two TDP ministers in the union cabinet – YS Chowdary and Ashok Gajapati Raju – are likely to submit their resignation by Saturday.

If the media reports are to be believed, majority of the party’s MLAs and MLCs are in favour of breaking ties with the BJP.

As per a report in India Today, party sources have informed that the BJP has been given a deadline till March 10 to make concrete announcements about the Andhra special package in Parliament.

“We have informed the central government about our 19 demands, including promises made by the then PM Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha. We are awaiting their response. Till then, we will continue to fight for our rights,” India Today quoted a TDP source as saying.

The TDP has continued its protest to demand a special status for AP inside and outside the parliament.

Earlier today, the Lok Sabha was adjourned abruptly following amid protests by the TDP. The members of Opposition held placards, raised slogans and approached Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s podium just minutes after the House assembled for the day.
