Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami pledged to make Champawat, where his assembly constituency is located, a model district of the state. He gave the assurance on Monday while inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for development projects worth nearly ₹124 crore in the election year.
Addressing a gathering of local residents in Champawat, Pushkar Singh Dhami said he has resolved to make Champawat a model district of Uttarakhand. He stated that the state government is working continuously to connect border areas with mainstream development. “It’s my resolve to transform Champawat a model district. Today Champawat is carving out its new identity in the field of education, tourism, infrastructure, women empowerment, agriculture, trade and employment. The state government’s objective is not merely to construct buildings and roads but also to develop a Champawat where youth get opportunities, women achieve self-reliance, farmers find prosperity, traders secure new avenues and all citizens get an equal share of developmental benefits,” he said.
The Chief Minister announced that a modern multi-story parking and shopping complex (City Centre) will be constructed in the Champawat district headquarters at a cost of ₹62.33 crore. “This will not only resolve the parking issue but also give a new momentum to local trade. “Besides this, several commercial buildings, a women’s technology park, one modern library and knowledge center each, an open gymnasium and several other facilities for the youth are being developed in Champawat,” added the chief minister.
Dhami inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 17 development schemes worth ₹123.79 crore in the district. This included inauguration of completed eight schemes worth ₹27.79 crore and foundation-stone laying projects of new developmental schemes worth ₹96 crore.
Further, Dhami inaugurated the Jim Corbett Trail constructed at a cost of nearly ₹3.50 crore. He said that various construction and improvement works related to Jim Corbett are being carried out at different locations across Champawat district under this initiative.
Dhami reiterated his assurance to develop Champawat into a model district while interacting with different local groups, including delegations of priests from various temples, paramilitary forces’ personnel, youth, public representatives, trade unions, sanitation workers, teachers, entrepreneurs, self-help group members, taxi unions, bank employees and members of the bar association.
He announced that a modern multi-story parking and shopping complex (City Centre) will be constructed in Champawat town at the cost of ₹62.33 crore. Chief Minister added that a women’s sports college worth nearly ₹257 crore and a modern science center will with the cost of ₹58.52 crore will also be constructed in the district.
It’s notable that Dhami currently represents Champawat assembly seat in the state. He lost 2022 assembly poll from his traditional seat Khatima but won Champawat by-election after that. Champawat was vacated for Dhami by his loyalist and late MLA Kailash Gahtori. Uttarakhand is scheduled to under assembly elections early 2027.
