Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked Delhi’s Lt Governor Anil Baijal for a report on last midnight’s incident at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in which Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash was allegedly manhandled by some ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs.

The Home Minister sought the report from the LG after a delegation of officers from IAS, DANICS and subordinate services of Delhi government met him at his residence Tuesday afternoon to apprise him about the incident.

Mr Rajnath Singh, in a tweet, said, “The MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) has sought a report on the incident from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Justice will be done. A delegation of IAS DANICS & Subordinate Services of Delhi Government met me today and apprised me of the prevailing situation.”

The Home Minister said, “I am deeply pained by the happenings involving the Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government. The civil servants should be allowed to work with dignity and without fear.”

The IAS officers’ delegation included the Delhi Chief Secretary, who had gone to the Chief Minister’s residence late Monday night to attend a meeting where Kejriwal was also present.

Secretary of the IAS Association, Delhi, Manisha Saxena said the Chief Secretary has been insulted and they need action and not an apology. “We want a case slapped on the MLAs,” she said.

The AAP, which has dismissed these allegations as baseless, criticised Rajnath Singh for not giving their delegation appointment to present their version. The AAP has accused the BJP, which rules the Centre, of being allegedly behind this entire episode. The Centre essentially calls the shots in the administration and law and order of Delhi.
