Centre assures help to cyclone-hit Tamil Nadu

The Union government on Monday assured the Tamil Nadu government of all central assistance in the wake of the Cylone Vardah that left a trail of destruction in parts of the state. The cyclone hit coastal areas in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts.
Following the disaster, Union Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam of the Centre’s assistance, according to an official statement.
The Tamil Nadu government said Rajnath Singh spoke to Panneerselvam over phone in the evening and enquired about the situation in the aftermath of cyclone Vardah. Panneerselvam informed the Union Minister about the preventive and other steps taken by the state government to face the cyclone.
Cyclone Vardah that hit Chennai on Monday killed two and left a wide trail of destruction. The cyclone was accompanied by heavy to very heavy rains in the areas.
