The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa and his wife, former minister Razia Sultana, in connection with the murder of their son, Aqil Akhter, who had publicly accused his parents of conspiring against him.

The case, initially registered at the Mansa Devi Complex police station in Panchkula on October 20, was taken over by the federal agency after a notification from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

A CBI official stated, “An FIR has been registered against Mohammad Mustafa, Razia Sultana (wife of the deceased), and the sister of the deceased, under sections 103(1) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).” The case was formally registered late Thursday night.

The probe was initiated following Aqil Akhter’s death under suspicious circumstances on October 16 at the family’s residence in Panchkula. The investigation was triggered by a viral video posted by the deceased on August 27, where he alleged an illicit relationship between his father and his wife, and claimed his family was conspiring to kill him or frame him in a false case.

The Haryana government had previously requested the central government to hand over the investigation to the CBI.
