The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while conducting an operation in the Varanasi Railway Division on Thursday, detained Divisional Material Manager Nitesh Agarwal for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.70 lakh.
According to official sources, Agarwal allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.70 lakh from a furniture supplier in exchange for clearing the contractor’s bill. Acting on the contractor’s complaint, the CBI conducted an investigation and detained the accused officer.
The CBI team is also searching the officer’s office, official residence, and other premises linked to him. In addition, the bank accounts and financial transactions of the officer and his family members are being scrutinised.
According to sources, the CBI has been carrying out a sustained drive against corruption in various divisions of the Railways over the past several months. Further investigation is underway.
