CBI arrests MCL manager in bribery case in Odisha

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an official of Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL), besides a private person, while accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe from a complainant, the investigating agency said on Thursday.

The accused Rampur Sub-area Manager demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant through the accused private person for assistance in a pending departmental inquiry. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept Rs 20,000 as the first installment.

Later, the CBI laid a trap yesterday and caught the accused private person red-handed while accepting Rs 20,000 (the first installment of the demanded bribe from the complainant). Subsequently, the accused public servant was also caught accepting the same amount from the accused private person. Both the accused persons have been apprehended. Further investigation of the matter is underway, the CBI concluded.
