The alertness of Kapurpur police once again dealt a major blow to cattle smugglers. A notorious history-sheeter was killed in cross-firing with the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, officials said on Monday.
On Sunday night, following a tip-off about illegal cow slaughter activities, a cross-firing took place, resulting in the death of Rs 50,000 reward-carrying history-sheeter Hasin. The accused opened fire on the police team, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defense, during which he was shot and injured. He later succumbed to his injuries, officials disclosed.
According to Superintendent of Police Gyananjay Singh, the incident is linked to the night of November 9–10. The Dial-112 control room received information that some cattle smugglers were gathering prohibited animals for illegal transportation.
Acting swiftly, Station House Officer Vinod Pandey and his team reached the spot and surrounded the suspects. Seeing himself trapped, the accused in a car opened fire on the police with the intent to kill. The police retaliated, injuring Hasin.
The injured culprit was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Dhaulana for primary treatment and later referred to a higher medical facility, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as Hasin, son of Ikrar, a resident of Mainauta village under Asmoli Police Station in Sambhal District. Having a long criminal record, Hasin was wanted in a case under sections 3/5/8 of the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act at Kapurpur police station.
A reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced for his arrest. He had more than two dozen criminal cases registered against him across Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, Sambhal, Amroha, and Gautam Buddh Nagar, including cases related to cow slaughter, attempted murder, and the Gangster Act.
Police recovered an illegal pistol, live and spent cartridges, and a car from the encounter site.
