Police in Odisha’s Bargarh district have arrested two suspected drug peddlers and made seizure of 2,700 bottles of codeine-laced Eskuf cough syrup, a banned substance under Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) in an ongoing anti-drug operation.
Acting upon a specific tip-off regarding hoarding, selling, and transportation of cough syrup by suspected drug peddlers near Canal Road in Bargarh, a raid was conducted, and two persons were intercepted with the banned substances.
All necessary legal formalities under the NDPS Act were duly followed. The accused persons were later remanded to judicial custody after a local court rejected their bail applications.
Further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the contraband articles and unearth the broader network involved in the illicit drug trade, said Superintendent of Police, Bargarh, Prahlad Sahai Meena.
