The bye-elections for eight assembly constituencies across seven states Tuesday witnessed an appreciable turnout amid by and large peaceful polling, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said.

The poll panel attributed the peaceful polling to strict security measures it enforced to ensure a smooth and fair polling process.

The constituencies that went to polls included Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha.

The polling percentage posted on ECI’s App at the end of the day showed Budgam recording a turnout of 50.01 while Nagrota saw a strong 74.82%. Jharkhand’s Ghatsila and Mizoram’s Dampa registered voter participation rates of 74.63 % and 82.34%, respectively. Odisha’s Nuapada reported 78.36%, Rajasthan’s Anta 80.01%, Punjab’s Tarn Taran 60.95%, and Telangana’s Jubilee Hills had a turnout of 48.43%

The vote count is slated for November 14, alongside the Bihar elections.

These by-elections serve as important indicators of political trends and party influence in the respective regions. With the Election Commission’s vigilant monitoring and robust security arrangements, the emphasis remains on maintaining the transparency and integrity of the electoral process, ensuring that all eligible voters can exercise their franchise freely and without disruption.
