A rashly driven speeding passenger bus operated by the family of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Rakesh Shukla crushed a couple and their two sons riding on a motorcycle to death in Indore late Wednesday night.
The mishap occurred on the Indore-Ujjain road. The bus of the ‘Baaneshwari Travels’ owned by the Shukla family, ran over the family riding on a motorcycle.
According to Sanwer Police Station In-Charge G S Mahobiya, the bus crushed to death Mahendra Solanki (35), his wife Jaishree Solanki (33), and their sons Tejas (14) and Jigar (7).
The official said that the bus driver fled the spot after the accident. A case has been registered against him under Sections 281 (rash driving on a public way), 125(A) (act endangering human life), and 106(1) (causing death by rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Meanwhile, politics heated up over the incident, with the opposition Congress alleging that a weak case has been deliberately registered against the driver, under the pressure of the BJP MLA.
Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Santosh Singh Gautam alleged on Thursday that police invoked weaker legal provisions against the driver under pressure from the ruling BJP.
Gautam said that the driver should be booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
On the other hand, the BJP denied such charges.
MP BJP spokesperson Alok Dubey asserted that the state government always acts impartially. He accused the Congress of attempting to politicise the unfortunate road accident.
Rakesh Shukla (50) is the BJP MLA from the Indore-3 Assembly Constituency.
